Respected tuner and motorsport preparation outfit Roger Clark Motorsport has stunned the Motorsport world by taking the outright UK Time Attack title for the second consecutive year.
This unprecedented achievement backs up the team’s other great result earlier in the year, where they also lifted top honours for the third time at the much vaunted ‘Ten Of The Best’ competition. An event designed to discover Europe’s greatest all-round racecar. In both cases, it has very much been a team effort, with RCM’s own fabrication, preparation and driving skills coming to the fore throughout. The car, a GC8 Subaru Impreza, has been designed and built completely in-house at the firm’s Leicestershire premises by Matt Clark – and skilfully piloted to a perfect point tally by brother Olly. With 890 Bhp on tap, this has been no easy ride!
The final round at Snetterton in Norfolk saw the team needing only a ‘sensible’ qualification session and race finish to take the title. A task made all the more difficult when the weather chose to provide far from ideal conditions as the racing progressed. However, Olly drove a measured race throughout to take the crown.
The team has been in dominant form since the season began, despite being one of the few outfits not to field a professional race driver. When not taking trophies at the track, both Clark brothers are hard at work looking after customer’s car in the business that their father, the late great Roger Clark MBE started in the early 1990s. On receiving this latest accolade, both Clarks were understandably jubilant. ‘It has been an exciting season.’ said Matt. ‘But this has made all of the hard work worthwhile. All the team back at RCM HQ have worked tirelessly to get us here, and I’d like to thank everybody that’s helped us along the way.’ Similarly grateful was wheelman Olly. ‘We’re obviously delighted with this result.’ He beamed. ‘But it has only been possible with the help of our sponsors. In particular, I would like to thanks AP Racing, Samco, MoTeC, MP Engineering, Turbo Dynamics, Scorpion, Autoglym, Prolong and EPS for their invaluable help throughout the year. This trophy is for you guys too!’
So what about next season? After their domination of the last three seasons, many of RCM’s rivals are keen for an opportunity to redress the balance in 2010. ‘We’ll see..’ smiled Matt. ‘We have a new workshop and showroom that’s been put on the back burner whilst we have been chasing this title, and we really need to concentrate our efforts there next year. But with a lot of development of the new ’09 Sti car already underway, our focus will be towards making that car competitive. Don’t rule us out for next season.’
So with RCM’s trophy cabinet groaning under the weight of more silverware and a busy schedule ahead, next year looks even more exciting for the Leicestershire team.
