Breakdown assistance in 15 seconds with startrescue.co.uk’s iphone app
Written by Kim French
Monday, 09 August 2010 18:31
Startrescue.co.uk has launched a great new iPhone app for stranded motorists, which is the first of its kind, as a call for assistance is not necessary. Saving valuable battery life can be critical in these circumstances and though one member reports being nervous about not making a call, he was then pleased at how quickly and well it worked.
Members of Startrescue.co.uk are spared the tedium of providing endless details over the phone and as the service links in with iPhone’s GPS technology they won’t even have to describe where they are. Once all details are verified, the motorist gets a call confirming details of the rescue time.Within days of being launched the app has been downloaded thousands of times and used in anger frequently with those members reporting a breakdown in a few seconds.
“This means our call centre can respond fast and accurately when our members need them most” says Richard Lamberth from Startrescue.co.uk “We are committed to finding new technology that can deliver additional benefit to our members – and the huge popularity of iPhones was a big driver for us here” he adds. Available free of charge to Startrescue.co.uk members from the iPhone app store, the app can also be freely downloaded by non members who want to find out more about one of the UK’s fastest growing roadside rescue services.

Note to Editors:
Start Rescue app will only work on the iPhone.
startrescue.co.uk will provide non members with a quotation for assistance with the understanding that there is no obligation to proceed.

As Car Crime Awareness Week (17-23 May) gets underway, police car crime experts are warning that many thousands of ‘cloned’ cars are still being sold illegally, to genuine buyers, who then stand to lose both their new car and the money they paid for it.

According to ACPO figures*, 1,300 cloned vehicles, worth more than £13million, have been recovered since 2006. Yet, this is likely to be just a tiny proportion of the problem, with over 100,000 stolen blank V5C Registration documents still in circulation, being used to clone stolen vehicles.

During 2010 Keyline Builders Merchants who I work for as a Branch Manager are supporting the Prostate Cancer Charity. In this time Keyline want to raise £50,000 and to help in this effort we will be driving from London to Monte Carlo and back in 96 hours in a team of 20 cars with 2 support vehicles.
The added twist for us is that we will be travelling from Inveraray on the West coast of Scotland meaning that in under 6 days we will be driving 2600 miles between a team of 2 drivers. As a Husband and Wife team in a Subaru travelling from the furthest away destination to take part in Keyline's challenge, we are seeking your support by making pledges and helping to raise awareness. One man dies every hour from Prostate Cancer. The Prostate Cancer Charity aim to fund research, give support and information, and campaign to improve the lives of men with Prostate Cancer.
We want to help raise awareness and funds in their crusade in any way that we can. We were delighted to be a small part of the McRae Gathering helping to raise £53000 as participants and now its our chance to to help raise another £50000 for a worthy cause, please help us and show your support.
All pledges are gratefully received. LINK NOW ADDED BELOW -

Motorists turning to car clubs
Written by Kim French
Friday, 30 April 2010 22:07
More motorists in the UK are turning to car clubs due to the spiralling costs of car ownership.
In the past 12 months, membership of car clubs has nearly doubled from 64,679 members to 112,928, according to new Department for Transport statistics.
The main reason for the switch is the ever-increasing cost of fuel; the average tank of fuel now costs £10 more than this time last year.
The rising cost of fuel has also led to more people buying hybrid or electric cars (48,000 units sold in 2008, 62,000 in 2009) and the average engine size sold in the UK in 2009 was down 3.6 per cent on 2008 to 1692cc.
“It is the impact of pump prices," an AA spokesman told the Daily Telegraph. "When we ask motorists what factors have influenced their choice of car, fuel economy comes second after reliability. Environmental concerns come some way down.”
The statistics also showed that more motorists were hanging onto their cars for longer. Motorists held onto their cars for an average of 6.6 years in 2003, compared with 7.1 years in 2009.
